2014 World Cup: Asamoah Gyan rejects calls for him to return to Europe, says he has nothing to prove

Ghana striker Asamoah Gyan says he has nothing more to prove in response to several calls on him to return to the more competitive leagues in Europe.

The Black Stars striker has been in exceptional form for both club and country since joining UAE giants Al Ain in 2011.

The 28-year-old has won successive top scorer awards since joining the Dubai-based club.

His goal tally for the Black Stars has also shot up during this period, especially during Ghana’s tough qualifying series for the 2014 World Cup.

Calls for Asamoah Gyan to return to Europe however keeps rising with the feeling from some Ghanaians fans that the ex Stade Rennes and Sunderland hitman could perform even better for the Black Stars once he plays in the more competitive leagues in Europe.

Gyan however says these calls are misplaced as he has already proved himself during his time in Italy, France and England.

“I have played in Italy, France and England, I made enough mark in those clubs, I have nothing to prove to anybody, my records are there for everybody to see and that is what am concentrating on,” he said.

“Just check my results and the records when I was in Europe playing for the Black Stars and now playing for Al Ain, my current records are better because I have scored 11 goals in 2013 and that is the highest so far for me.

“I don’t know why people say I should go to Europe I have nothing to prove to there.”

Gyan is currently with his national side preparing for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
