Brighton coach Fabian Hurzeler says there’s growing belief within the Seagulls’ camp that Danny Welbeck still has what it takes to wear the England shirt again.
The manager revealed that his players were unanimous in backing the 34-year-old’s potential international recall.
“I just asked the question to the squad whether Danny Welbeck can play for England and they all agreed,” Hurzeler said.
“That was the only time we’ve mentioned it. Let’s see what happens.”
The Ghanaian-born striker has rediscovered his form, scoring five goals in nine league matches this term following a strong campaign last season.
His consistency has reportedly caught the attention of England boss Thomas Tuchel, who is assessing attacking options ahead of the World Cup.
With Harry Kane locked in as England’s main striker and Ollie Watkins sidelined, Welbeck’s experience and renewed sharpness could provide valuable depth for the Three Lions.
A recall would mark a remarkable return for a player who last featured for England in 2018, capping off an inspiring resurgence in his career.
