For Antoine Semenyo, pulling on the Ghanaian national team jersey isn’t just another career milestone it’s the fulfillment of a lifelong dream.
Growing up in London to Ghanaian parents, Semenyo’s connection to Ghanaian football runs deep. Watching the national team compete at major tournaments was a treasured family ritual that shaped his identity and ambition.
“Dream come true [representing Ghana]. I think as a kid we always used to watch Ghana. Every African Cup of Nations, every World Cup campaign. We would always go to my uncle’s house in central London and we would watch every single game. Shout and scream and all the emotions you can think of when things were great and when things were bad,” he said.
Semenyo recalls one particular memory that stands out vividly, a heartbreaking but defining moment in Ghanaian football history.
“The moment I remember so much is when Asamoah Gyan missed a penalty in the 2010 World Cup. I just remember that day like it was yesterday because the way we were running around the house, it was crazy but it’s an honour,” he reflected.
