Morocco’s U-20 head coach, Mohamed Ouahbi, says his team’s FIFA U-20 World Cup victory proves that African football is ready to conquer the world and not just in the distant future.

Speaking after Morocco’s 2-0 win over Argentina in the 2025 final in Chile, Ouahbi declared:

“We are not waiting until the 2030 World Cup to become world champions. Morocco will try again in 2026. I don’t think it gets any better than this.”

The coach, who guided the North Africans to their first-ever U-20 world title, praised his players for their tactical maturity and calmness on the grand stage.

“We were expecting them to play aggressively, so we had to keep our composure, and we did that brilliantly,” he noted.

Ouahbi’s words reflect the growing confidence surrounding Moroccan football after years of steady progress at all levels. The triumph marks Africa’s second U-20 world title matching Ghana’s feat and cements Morocco’s rise as a powerhouse on the global stage.

With Morocco set to host the FIFA U-17 World Cup next month, Ouahbi’s declaration feels more like a mission statement than a celebration.
