Asante Kotoko head coach Karim Zito says he will rotate his squad during the season to keep players fresh and avoid the mistakes of other Ghana Premier League sides who have struggled when competing in Africa.
The Porcupine Warriors edged Nigerian side Kwara United 4-3 in their CAF Confederation Cup preliminary first-leg tie on Sunday, and Zito believes managing player workload will be crucial as the campaign progresses.
“I’m now trying to see my players’ abilities and capabilities on the field, so going forward I will not be loading the players with all games. Rather, there will be some rotations at some positions in our games,” Zito told Akoma 87.9 FM.
He pointed to recent examples in the GPL, where Nsoatreman, Medeama, Dreams FC and Samartex struggled domestically while juggling continental commitments.
“We want to avoid falling into the same trap,” he added.
Kotoko travel to Abuja this weekend for the decisive return leg against Kwara United in the Confederation Cup.
