Former Executive Council Member of the Ghana Football Association, Dr. Tony Aubynn has underlined the critical importance of Ghana securing a place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, insisting that the Black Stars must go all out to book their ticket.

The Black Stars currently lead Group I of the African qualifiers with 19 points from eight matches.

Following back-to-back victories in March, they stumbled to a frustrating draw against Chad before bouncing back with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Mali at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday night.

Speaking to Citi Sports, the former Executive Council member of the Ghana Football Association emphasized what qualification would mean for the nation.

“Black Stars qualifying [to the World Cup] is extremely important; it adds to our reputation as a football nation,” Dr Aubynn said.

“Ghana is a football might in Africa, and the records show… but I think qualifying is very important to us, and I think we must do everything to qualify,” he added.

Ghana’s final hurdle comes next month when they face the Central African Republic and Comoros in their last two qualifiers.

Victories in those fixtures would secure a place at the tournament, set to be staged across the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
