Under-fire Ashantigold coach Bashir Hayford receives board backing

Under-fire Ashantigold coach Bashir Hayford has received the backing of the club’s board despite his side’s unflattering campaign in their Ghanaian top-tier.

The former Premier League champions have fallen off the pace after an abysmal run since the start of the second round.

Their 4-1 defeat at Kotoko has sparked a wave of discontent among their teeming fans with calls for his head growing incessant.

However Chief Executive, Kudjoe Fianoo, has given his support to the ex-Medeama trainer, claiming his job is safe.

“The results have been disappointing but we must not only look at the coach but other issues,” he said

“We have a contract with him and so if we want to discuss his future, we’ll do that internally.

“That will not be a matter of public debate. The board has faith in him and so I believe he will be in charge.

“As and when anything comes up, we’ll discuss it. We are not happy with our recents results but we’re not going to press the panic button.”

The miners have dropped to 5th on the table.
