Asante Kotoko are the winners of the Champion of Champions trophy after defeating Bibiani GoldStars 1-0 at the Duns Park in the 2025/26 season curtain-raiser.

Kotoko, who had lost to the Ghana Premier League champions in the GHALCA Top 4 tournament earlier this month, were keen to exact revenge according to head coach Karim Zito but it did not come easy.

The game was cagey, marked by heavy physical battles.

The hosts came closest to scoring in the early stages when Appiah McCarthy unleashed a powerful freekick that was parried away, before his rebound effort was also stopped by goalkeeper Mohammed Camara.

Kotoko grew into the game and nearly broke the deadlock through Morifing Donzo, who lifted the ball over goalkeeper Emmanuel Kobi only to see his effort crash against the post.

The breakthrough finally arrived in the 69th minute, when new signing Musa Hamzata calmly slotted home Seth’s flicked cross into the bottom corner to give Kotoko the lead.

GoldStars pushed men forward in search of an equalizer, leaving gaps at the back. Kotoko almost doubled their advantage on the counter, but Donzo’s strike was denied by Kobi.

The Porcupine Warriors held their ground to clinch their fourth trophy under Karim Zito, adding the Champion of Champions to the FA Cup, Toyota Cup, and President’s Cup.
