Former Ghana Football Association Executive Council Member Samuel Anim Addo says it would be difficult for Congress members to deny incumbent Ghana Football Association President Kurt Okraku a third term.
As widely reported last week, the Statutes Review Committee are seeking to extend the term of office for the Association’s President from two to three, citing best international practice from Fifa and CAF, albeit yet to be approved by Congress.
The 31st Ordinary Congress will decide on a proposal to extend the presidential term limit from two to three terms, allowing the president to serve up to 12 years.
However, former GFA Executive Council member Samuel Anim Addo believes opponents of the proposal may struggle to voice their dissent due to Ghanaian societal norms.
“When we get to Congress, those who want to oppose can never say no. They can’t. There are some few of us who can tell him no. Most of them can’s say no becausethat’show our society has been built,” Anim Addo said on Sporty FM.
Anim believes the proposal will likely pass, but emphasized that using power to oppress others is not leadership.
“When you use power to oppress, don’t think you’re a leader. That win you have won is wrong,” he added.
Anim Addo urged the current President to consider leaving on a high note, rather than clinging to power. The Congress is scheduled for August 12, 2025.
