GFA Women’s Rep to become 2nd Vice President as FIFA approves reform

FIFA has approved a key amendment to the Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) statutes that will see the Women’s Representative on the Executive Council serve as the Second Vice President.

The decision forms part of the GFA’s ongoing efforts to align its leadership structure with international standards.

FIFA, in its feedback, praised the move for promoting meaningful female representation and ensuring women’s voices are heard at the top level of decision-making in Ghanaian football.

While this reform received the green light, FIFA rejected the GFA’s broader proposal to expand its Executive Council from 12 to 22 members.

The expansion aimed to accommodate additional voices, including eight more Regional Football Association chairpersons, a woman elected by Women’s Premier League clubs, and representatives from constituent bodies such as referees and schools football.

However, FIFA advised a pause on that plan, urging further review and caution in introducing such sweeping structural changes.
