Former Hearts of Oak board member Alhaji Akanbi has opened up about years of sacrifice and frustration, claiming the club continues to overlook his efforts.
In a candid interview with Asempa FM, Akanbi revealed he feels abandoned despite his commitment to the Phobians.
“I have sacrificed a lot for Hearts of Oak, but I don’t get the needed recognition,” he said.
He recounted a shocking incident where he was detained for five days in Bawku while on a scouting mission for the club.
“I was locked in Bawku for five days while scouting players for Hearts of Oak.”
Akanbi also hit out at what he described as a media-led campaign to tarnish his image, accusing some outlets of inciting fan resentment against him.
“Hearts of Oak fans’ hatred for me is fuelled by the media. They keep spreading false stories about me.”
His remarks come as Hearts of Oak look to rebuild under new head coach Didi Dramani after a disappointing 2024/25 season that ended without silverware.
