The Parliament of Ghana, led by the Rt. Hon. Speaker Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, will launch the second edition of the Democracy Cup on Thursday, July 24, 2025.
The official unveiling will be held at 3:00 PM at the Justice D. F. Annan Auditorium within Parliament House. According to a statement from the Parliamentary Service, signed by Director of Media Relations David Sebastian Damoah, the launch will feature the announcement of the two football clubs selected to contest this year’s one-off match, along with details on the format and associated activities.
First introduced in 2024, the Democracy Cup was established as a parliamentary initiative to promote civic engagement and national unity through football. The inaugural match, held on July 17, 2024, at the Accra Sports Stadium, saw Kumasi Asante Kotoko defeat Accra Hearts of Oak to lift the maiden trophy.
“This second edition promises even more excitement and surprises. We encourage the general public and football fans to rally behind the event and participate fully,” the statement said.
