Viral Image: Kudus jersey set ablaze by angry West Ham supporter after Spurs switch

Mohammed Kudus’ high-profile move from West Ham United to city rivals Tottenham Hotspur has stirred emotions among fans — with one act of protest drawing widespread attention online.

A photo has gone viral showing a West Ham supporter burning Kudus’ No. 14 jersey over a flaming barbecue.

The jersey, which appears to be autographed by the Ghanaian international, was held above the fire as a symbol of frustration and anger over his transfer.

The backlash comes just hours after Kudus was officially unveiled as a Spurs player following a £55 million move that made him the most expensive Ghanaian footballer in history.

What intensified the reaction was Kudus’ bold statement during his unveiling: “I only wanted Spurs.”

The comment was interpreted by many West Ham fans as a slight against the club that brought him to the Premier League from Ajax two seasons ago.

Social media platforms were flooded with reactions to the burning jersey. Some fans expressed sympathy, while others ridiculed the gesture, calling it an overreaction.

Comments like “burning bridges, literally” and “that’s one expensive barbecue” captured the mix of humor and bitterness that surrounded the moment.

Kudus, who scored five goals and registered four assists in 35 league appearances for West Ham last season, had quickly become a fan favourite at the London Stadium.

However, his abrupt departure — and particularly the way he distanced himself from the club in his first words as a Spurs player — clearly struck a nerve with sections of the fanbase.

As Kudus begins his new chapter in north London, the image of his burning shirt will serve as a fiery reminder of the passions that football transfers ignite — especially when they cross city lines. His eventual return to face West Ham in the Premier League promises to be a highly charged affair.
