“We gave them the opportunity” – Bjorkegren rues mistakes in Black Queens loss to South Africa

Head coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren says Ghana’s 2-0 defeat to South Africa in their WAFCON 2024 opener came down to costly errors after a promising start.

The Black Queens matched the defending champions early on but conceded twice in quick succession before halftime.

Despite second-half efforts that saw Alice Kusi and Evelyn Badu hit the woodwork, Ghana couldn’t break through.

“They scored from the penalty, it came from nowhere,” Bjorkegren said. “After that, we gave them the opportunity to score another one – and that is a problem.”

He added: “The performance was pretty good overall. We knew this was maybe the toughest game we could play.”

Ghana next face Mali on July 11 before wrapping up Group C against Tanzania.
