Asante Kotoko head coach Abdul Karim Zito says clinching the 2025 President’s Cup was a deliberate effort to reward fans after the club narrowly missed out on the Ghana Premier League title.
The Porcupine Warriors came from behind to beat rivals Hearts of Oak 2-1 at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, lifting their ninth President’s Cup trophy.
In his post-match interview, Coach Zito admitted the team set out to win the game as a way of pacifying supporters.
“The plan was to come and win. I wanted us to go for the second cup,” he told the media.
“We couldn’t win the Ghana Premier League so I wanted us to pacify the fans with this second cup and I’m happy that we won. We are all happy and I’m happy that my supporters are also happy.”
Zito, who has introduced several new faces into the squad, is now being strongly considered for the permanent role as the club prepares for next season’s CAF Confederation Cup.
