Ghana’s Minister for Sports and Recreation, Hon. Kofi Iddie Adams, met with Mexico’s Ambassador to Ghana, Her Excellency Norma Ang, to discuss strengthening ties between the two countries through sports, particularly football.
Both nations share a passion for the game and explored ways to collaborate on talent development, coaching exchanges, and referee training.
Ambassador Ang expressed Mexico’s enthusiasm for partnering with Ghana to build technical capacity in football, highlighting opportunities for university sports programs and joint training initiatives.
Minister Adams welcomed these proposals, noting that football has long been a cultural bridge between the two countries.
“For many Ghanaians, their first introduction to Mexican culture came through football,” he said. “Whether it’s watching World Cup highlights or following legendary Mexican players, the connection runs deep.”
The meeting drew top figures in Ghanaian football, and plans were discussed for grassroots programs, women’s football development, and joint football festivals.
The two countries also discussed potential collaborations ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which Mexico will co-host. Through football, Ghana and Mexico aim to foster mutual respect, inspire youth, and build a new chapter of friendship.
