Former Medeama SC striker Jonathan Sowah has set his sights on a return to the Black Stars, about a year after making his debut for the senior national team.
Sowah, who now plays for Tanzanian Premier League side Singida Black Stars, made his Ghana debut in September 2023 during a friendly match against Liberia under then-coach Chris Hughton.
He marked the occasion with an assist as Ghana ran out 3-1 winners at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Despite that bright start, the 25-year-old has not featured for the national team since.
Speaking in an interview with Asempa FM, Sowah dismissed suggestions of bad blood or controversy over his absence from the squad.
“I don’t believe there is any issue with why I have been out of the Black Stars,” he said.
“There was a qualifier where I was expected to be part of the squad, but I was left out, which affected me, but I am always committed to playing for the Black Stars, regardless of what has happened.
“I am ready to compete to be the main striker of the Black Stars. I am still knocking at the doors of the Black Stars. I am not giving up. I want to replicate what Asamoah Gyan has done for Ghana.”
Sowah has enjoyed a brilliant start in Tanzania, scoring 13 goals in 13 appearances in his first season with Singida Black Stars.
