Ghana’s Black Queens lost 3-1 to Nigeria in their final warm-up match ahead of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
Played at the Lanoura Complex in Morocco, the match exposed key weaknesses in Ghana’s setup, with Nigeria; record WAFCON champions dominating throughout.
Goals from Chiwendu Ihezuo, Asisat Oshoala (penalty), and a third early in the second half sealed it for the Super Falcons. Alice Kusi scored a late consolation for Ghana.
The defeat adds to a mixed build-up for the Queens, who have beaten Malawi, Benin, and Senegal but struggled against stronger opponents like Morocco and Nigeria.
Head coach Kim Bjorkegren admits Ghana aren’t favourites but believes they can still spring surprises when their Group C campaign kicks off on July 7 against holders South Africa. They’ll also face Mali and Tanzania.
