Michael Baidoo joins Qatari outfit Umm Saal on season-long loan

Ghanaian midfielder Michael Baidoo has joined Qatari side Umm Salal SC on a season-long loan from Plymouth Argyle.

The 26-year-old playmaker joined Plymouth in January 2025 but struggled to find consistent game time, making only 13 appearances as the team faced relegation to League One.

Seeking a fresh start, Baidoo has opted for a temporary switch to the Middle East.Umm Salal, who finished second in the 2024-25 Qatar Stars League, hopes Baidoo’s creativity will help them achieve domestic dominance and compete in continental competitions.

The loan deal, which runs through the 2025-26 season, does not include an option to buy.Baidoo’s versatility and experience from playing in Sweden and Norway will be valuable assets for Umm Salal.

This move also provides an opportunity for Baidoo to catch the eye of Ghana’s national team selectors ahead of crucial international qualifiers.
