Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso says he’s proud of his team’s performance at the fifa club world cup, despite falling short of a round of 16 spot.
The south african champions bowed out after a goalless draw with Fluminense at the Hard Rock Stadium in Florida, finishing third in Group F with four points.
“We have that consciousness that we have been playing one of the most beautiful football in the competition. The story of this game is the goal we didn’t score in the first 20–25 minutes,” Cardoso said after the match.
“I am so proud of my boys. I am so proud of the club I represent. I hope South Africans understand the work Sundowns have done.”
Sundowns’ campaign featured a narrow 1–0 win over Ulsan HD, a thrilling 4–3 loss to Borussia Dortmund, and the draw with Fluminense, where they dominated with 60% possession and three shots on target.
