Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to revitalizing the local football league.
The Ghana Premier League has faced challenges such as match-fixing and poor officiating, leading to decreased fan engagement.
Adams stated at the 2025 Ghana Football Awards that President John Mahama is dedicated to enhancing the quality and appeal of the domestic league.
“We want to see the potential of Ghana’s football reach its highest heights. This is why, under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama, government is committed to working with stakeholders to revive interest in the local game [of football],” Adams emphasized. “The local game must be revived,” he added.
The government’s commitment aims to address the league’s challenges and restore its appeal. The recent season saw Bibiani GoldStars win the Ghana Premier League title, while Asante Kotoko secured the FA Cup championship.
