Lower-tier side Golden Kick SC are calling for a level playing field ahead of their historic MTN FA Cup final clash with Asante Kotoko on Sunday, June 15.
In a statement issued by Chief Executive Officer Joseph Epton, the club firmly rejected suggestions that they should concede the trophy to Kotoko due to their limited financial capacity to represent Ghana in continental football.
“CAF Confederation Cup qualification is not a gift; it’s an achievement,” Epton emphasized. “To deny Golden Kick the fruits of a deserved triumph due to financial or logistical assumptions undermines the very spirit of fair competition. Let merit lead. Let football remain fair.”
The statement comes in response to growing debate over whether Golden Kick, as a lower-division club, should step aside to allow Kotoko; a more established club to claim the FA Cup and represent Ghana in Africa next season.
The MTN FA Cup final kicks off at 5 PM on Sunday at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.
