Nations FC has released a statement explaining their decision to abandon their match against Basake Holy Stars, citing “a series of unacceptable incidents that undermined the integrity of the game and the safety of our personnel.”
The club expressed concerns over the poor officiating, which they believed compromised the fairness and credibility of the match.
The statement also reported an attack on senior executives, with the President and Chairman being “physically assaulted by home supporters.”
This, along with inadequate security arrangements, created an unsafe environment for the team and officials. Notably, the club had agreed on 70 police officers for security, but “fewer than 20 officers were present on the day.”
Additionally, Nations FC supporters with valid tickets were “unjustly denied entry into the stadium,” which the club deemed “an act of discrimination and disrespect.” The club’s media personnel were also targeted, with their accredited videographer being prevented from recording the match.
The club has called on the Ghana Football Association to investigate these incidents and take disciplinary measures. “The safety, dignity, and fairness owed to every club, official, and supporter must be upheld at all times,” the statement read. The decision to halt the game was described as “difficult” but necessary due to the circumstances. Nations FC emphasized the need for stakeholders to ensure a safe and fair environment for all participants.
