Despite missing out on Ghana’s squad for the upcoming Unity Cup in London, Premier League duo Mohammed Kudus and Kamaldeen Sulemana have shown their support by visiting the Black Stars camp ahead of the tournament opener.
The West Ham and Southampton wingers were left out of Otto Addo’s 23-man selection due to minor injuries sustained during the recently concluded season.
Kudus featured regularly for the Hammers, while Sulemana endured a challenging campaign that saw his side, Southampton, relegated to the Championship.
Their presence in camp, however, lifted spirits as the Black Stars intensified preparations for their much-anticipated encounter with Nigeria on Thursday.
In their absence, head coach Otto Addo has turned to fresh faces, handing a debut call-up to Caleb Yirenkyi of FC Nordsjaelland, among others. Addo emphasized that the Unity Cup presents an ideal platform to test new options and deepen competition within the team.
“Building a strong squad takes time,” Addo noted. “This tournament allows us to assess new talent and ensure everyone gets a fair chance to compete for a place.”
The Unity Cup features four nations, with Ghana set to take on long-time rivals Nigeria in their opening game. Jamaica and Trinidad & Tobago will get the tournament underway on Wednesday at the Gtech Community Stadium.
