Medeama’s Kamaradini Mamudu gets Black stars nod for Unity Cup

Medeama SC’s dynamic right-back Kamaradini Mamudu is set to make his international debut after earning a maiden call-up to the Black Stars for the inaugural Unity Cup tournament, kicking off on May 28, 2025, at Brentford’s Gtech Community Stadium in London.

The 22-year-old defender, known for his tireless overlapping runs and defensive solidity, is one of four home-based players selected by coach Otto Addo for the four-nation friendly tournament featuring Ghana, Nigeria, Jamaica, and Trinidad and Tobago.

Mamudu’s inclusion in the 23-man squad, announced on Sunday, May 25, marks a significant milestone in his burgeoning career. Speaking to Medeama SC’s official Instagram page after joining the Black Stars camp, Mamudu expressed his gratitude and ambition:

“This call-up is a dream come true. I’m ready to give my all for Ghana and make my family and fans proud.”

His selection alongside Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Benjamin Asare, Nations FC midfielder Razak Simpson, and Asante Kotoko striker Kwame Opoku underscores Addo’s faith in Ghana Premier League talent.

Mamudu’s rise to prominence has been meteoric. A standout performer in the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League season, he has contributed three assists and maintained an 85% tackle success rate in 24 appearances for Medeama SC, earning praise as “undoubtedly one of the best right-backs in the GPL,” according to a post on the club’s Instagram.

His versatility, combining defensive grit with attacking flair, caught the eye of Addo during recent World Cup qualifiers, where Mamudu was a late addition to the squad for Ghana’s match against Niger. Now, with the Unity Cup, he has a chance to prove himself on a bigger stage.

Arriving in London on Saturday night with teammates Asare and Simpson, Mamudu hit the ground running, joining the Black Stars’ training camp on Sunday.

The Unity Cup is more than a friendly tournament for Mamudu; it’s a platform to showcase the potential of Ghana’s domestic league.

As one of five debutants in the squad, alongside FC Nordsjaelland’s Caleb Yirenkyi and others, Mamudu represents a new generation of Black Stars. His inclusion reflects Addo’s strategy to blend young, home-based talent with experienced foreign-based players like Abdul Salis Samed (Sunderland) and Ibrahim Sulemana (Atalanta Bergamo).
