High Performance specialist with FIFA, Faisal Chibsah has offered a frank and critical assessment of Ghana’s performance at the 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), describing the campaign as disappointing and far below the expectations set by head coach Desmond Ofei.
Appearing on TV3’s Sports Station, Chibsah analyzed the Black Satellites’ journey, which ended in frustration at the quarter-final stage.
Despite topping Group C with two wins and a draw, Ghana crashed out after a 1-1 draw and 5–4 penalty shootout defeat to hosts Egypt; a result that dashed hopes of a semi-final appearance and qualification for the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup.
“I know this is not how Desmond wanted to perform,” Chibsah stated. “We had the talent, we had the structure, but when it mattered most, we didn’t deliver.”
The former Ghana international highlighted concerns about the team’s creativity, tactical flexibility, and decision-making under pressure.
While Ghana showed early promise in the group stage; beating Senegal and Central African Republic Chibsah emphasized that the performances lacked dominance and identity.
The defeat to Egypt, he said, was a missed opportunity not only for the team but for the nation’s long-term youth development ambitions.
