Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Edwin Simeon Okraku has expressed his satisfaction with the progress made in women’s football over the past five years in Ghana, following the successful hosting of the Women’s Football Festival.
The festival, which crowned the winners of the Women’s Premier League and Women’s FA Cup on Sunday, drew a large crowd despite heavy rains.
Police Ladies and Faith Ladies emerged as champions in the Women’s Premier League and Women’s FA Cup, respectively. The matches were streamed across various media outlets, showcasing the growth of women’s football in Ghana.
GFA President Okraku expressed his excitement about the festival in an exclusive interview with 3Sports saying: “If you look at the level of competition and the enthusiasm showed by the clubs and people, who defied the heavy rains to stay and enjoy the female sports is something that excites me and tells all of us how far the game has come.”
“I think the investment that we have made in the female sports over the last 5 years is beginning to yield fruits,” he added.
The GFA also handed over two buses to Hasaacas Ladies and Ampem Darkoa, champions of the 2023-2024 Women’s Premier League in their respective zones. This gesture underscores the association’s commitment to supporting women’s football in Ghana.
