Uefa CL focus: Marseille without Andre Ayew for Arsenal test, Muntari’s Milan hope for positive results at Celtic and more

Ghana winger Andre Ayew will be watching from his treatment room in France while his Olympique Marseille side are in England to play Arsenal in their Group F Uefa Champions League tie but Kevin-Prince Boateng, Jordan Ayew and Sulley Muntari are all likely to be in action on Tuesday night.

The 23-year-old Andre underwent surgery on Monday morning in Marseille to correct a knee injury he picked up while playing for Ghana in the 2014 World Cup qualifier against Egypt last Tuesday.

Andre has been Marseille’s most influential player in all competitions this season and manager Elie Baup is definitely going to feel the impact of his absence as they seek their first point of the campaign at the Emirates Stadium.

However attacker Jordan Ayew who has once in the competition for Les Olympians – against the Gunners from the spot at the Stade Velodrome, is likely to see some playing minutes, probably a second half substitute.

In Arsenal’s team is Ghanaian Emmanuel Frimpong who seems to have fallen out of favour in Arsene Wenger’s Gunners squad and is set to miss out.

Frimpong has not played for the Group F leaders since returning from loan but has been on the substitute bench thrice in domestic competitions.

Elsewhere Sulley Muntari has shaken off a slight injury he picked during AC Milan’s 1-1 home stalemate with Genoa in the Italian Serie A during the weekend and he is set to feature against the Scottish giants at the Celtic Park in Glasgow.

The Rossoneris have won just a game – 2-0 against the Scottish title-holders in the reverse fixture and trail leaders Barcelone by five points. A victory for Celtic could catapult them above Milan in the group.

Kevin-Prince Boateng will seek to revive Schalke 04’s campaign after suffering back-to-back defeats to Chelsea in their last two games.

Schalke have journeyed to Switzerland to face Romanian giants Steaua Bucure?ti in a highly-anticipated duel with Boateng expected to play a key role.

After scoring thrice in his last three games in all competitions, Boateng will be hoping to get back on the scoring sheet in the competition and secure a win for the Royal Blues in Bucure?ti as he scored his debut goal in the competition for Schalke against the Romanians in mid September.

Michael Essien will as well watch from the screens in London as his Chelsea side play away to FC Basel in Switzerland. Essien was not registered by Chelsea for this stages of the competition.
