Egypt boss confirms Mo Salah refused Liverpool’s scan request before playing injured vs Guinea

Egypt national team boss Ehab Galal has revealed that the country’s star man, Mohamed Salah, ignored the advice of his club in taking to the pitch for the Pharaohs this past weekend.

Salah led his country back into action on Sunday evening.

Amid their ongoing efforts to book a spot at the 2023 edition of the Africa Cup of Nations, Egypt played host to Guinea, an outing which saw Salah face off against Liverpool teammate Naby Keita.

And, when all was said and done, it was the former who emerged triumphant, owing to a first-ever international goal on the part of attacker Mostafa Mohamed:

Egypt, in turn, have taken their place joint-top of the Group D table, alongside Malawi.

As alluded to above, though, en route to the nation’s latest victory, concern was also sparked surrounding the wellbeing of the Pharaohs’ star man.

Speaking to the media on the back of his side’s triumph at the Cairo International Stadium, Egypt boss Ehab Galal revealed that Mohamed Salah in fact navigated the 90 minutes on Sunday whilst in possession of an injury.

‘Salah was suffering from an injury and played through it,’ Galal explained.

Not only that, but the Premier League Golden Boot holder did so after ignoring the pleas of those in a position of power at Liverpool, who advised their prolific wide-man to undergo a medical scan before returning to the pitch:

‘He rejected Liverpool’s request for an X-ray before the game and will now undergo it,’ Galal concluded.
