GFA criticism was my personal view, not GHALCA’s – Fianoo

Chairman of the Ghana League Club Association (GHALCA), Kudjoe Fianoo, has clarified that his recent criticism of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) reflects his personal opinions, not GHALCA’s official stance.

Days ago, Fianoo publicly criticized GFA President Kurt Okraku, calling for his resignation following the Black Stars’ recent poor performance in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

He argued that under Okraku’s leadership, the national team has struggled, suffering early exits in both the 2021 and 2023 Africa Cup of Nations tournaments.

After Fianoo’s remarks, GHALCA issued a statement distancing the association from his comments. In response, Fianoo told Graphic Sports that his views were entirely his own.

“Just like any other Ghanaian who pays tax, I have a right to express my views on football matters. Holding the chairmanship of GHALCA doesn’t mean everything I say represents the association’s position,” he said.

“Even though I’m the GHALCA chairman, I think I have my own opinions. I haven’t asked GHALCA for permission to speak on their behalf. But as a citizen of Ghana, I have the liberty to raise concerns,”

“If I speak and I make sense, people will support me. If not, I should be held accountable. I’m an industry player, and when I see we’re not getting the results we deserve, I have to speak up. My taxes contribute to the Black Stars, so I have a say.”
