Desmond Ofei targets 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup qualification with Black Satellites

Ghana’s U-20 head coach, Desmond Ofei, has set his sights on qualifying for the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile.

However, the team must first navigate the 2024 WAFU Zone B Men’s U-20 Championship in Togo from October 17-31.

The Black Satellites are drawn in Group A with host Togo, Benin and Niger

The team is in camp preparing for the championship and have involved in some friendlies with local sides Legon Cities, SMAC, and 2023-24 Ghana Premier League winners, Medeama Sporting Club,

In an interview with Max FM Ofei is confident in his team’s abilities and refuses to undermine the importance of the WAFU championship, which is the gateway to the African championship, then to the World Cup.

“I don’t want to speak too early but the ultimate goal is to qualify Ghana to the major tournaments and the ultimate goal is the World Cup because it has been a while.

“We don’t want to speak to early or too soon, WAFU is the most difficult tournament to qualify.

“So we have to focus on the WAFU first because it is tough. It’s going to be in Togo. We have got a tricky group. First match we face Benin, Niger, then Togo,” he said
