Ex-Ghana defender John Paintsil backs Accra Hearts of Oak’s suspension of Kofi Kordzi

Former Ghana international, John Paintsil has applauded Hearts of Oak for cracking the whip to suspend striker Kofi Kordzi.

The strong centre-forward went contrary to his contract when he featured for one of the clubs that participated in this year’s Ramadan Cup on a day the Phobians were in action in the MTN FA Cup.

With Hearts of Oak learning of the striker’s stubborn behaviour, it slapped Kofi Kordzi with a two-week suspension.

Reacting to the club’s decision in an interview with CTV, John Paintsil says it is spot on.

In his argument, the ex-Black Stars full-back said it is important to set a good precedent to serve as a deterrent to other players in the future.

“The player must know because that kind of conduct is bad even in Europe. So if you don’t know this here and you go there it will be the same. Once you sign a contract you cannot go and play anywhere else.

“They are paying you and so you have to respect your contract. If he is on a high salary they will deduct his money. It is a very serious thing. I think what Hearts of Oak have done is very good just to send the right signals to those who don’t know. Once you have a contract you have no other business with anybody,” John Paintsil stressed.

Meanwhile, striker Kofi Kordzi after his suspension has issued an apology to the club and its fans, promising to be of his best behaviour going forward.
