Former Asante Kotoko defender calls for salary cuts amidst club’s struggles in the League

Amidst Asante Kotoko’s recent string of disappointing results in the Ghana Premier League, former defender Osei Kwame Junior has proposed a bold solution: salary reductions for the players.

The Ghanaian giants have encountered a turbulent period, registering six defeats in their last seven league outings and managing just one point in the process. This downturn has seen Kotoko plummet from championship hopefuls to scrambling to avoid relegation.

In light of these struggles, Junior believes that a reduction in player salaries could serve as a wake-up call, instilling a greater sense of commitment and urgency within the squad. He pointed out that even the club’s lowest-paid player earns a substantial sum, potentially fostering complacency among the ranks.

Ahead of their upcoming showdown against league leaders Samartex, Junior stressed the importance of a shift in mindset among the players. He suggested that drastic measures may be necessary, including personnel changes, to rejuvenate Kotoko’s prospects in the league.

Sitting eleventh in the league standings, Kotoko faces a pivotal test against Samartex before tackling reigning champions Medeama SC in what promises to be a challenging encounter.
