As the group stage of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) reaches a crucial juncture, the fate of third-placed teams hangs in the balance. Here’s the current standing of the third-placed teams:

1️⃣ Ivory Coast 🇨🇮 – 3 points, GD +1 2️⃣ Namibia 🇳🇦 – 3 points, GD -2 3️⃣ Algeria 🇩🇿 – 2 points, GD 0 4️⃣ Zambia 🇿🇲 – 2 points, GD 0 5️⃣ Ghana 🇬🇭 – 1 point, GD -1 6️⃣ Cameroon 🇨🇲 – 1 point, GD -2

With the final group games on the horizon, each team faces a pivotal challenge to secure a spot in the knockout stage. The last group game matchups are as follows:

  • Ivory Coast 🇨🇮 vs. Equatorial Guinea 🇬🇶
  • Namibia 🇳🇦 vs. Mali 🇲🇱
  • Algeria 🇩🇿 vs. Mauritania 🇲🇷
  • Zambia 🇿🇲 vs. Morocco 🇲🇦
  • Ghana 🇬🇭 vs. Mozambique 🇲🇿
  • Cameroon 🇨🇲 vs. Gambia 🇬🇲

With only four out of the six third-placed teams advancing to the round of 16, the competition is intense.

The Black Stars, currently in the fifth position, faces an uphill battle to secure one of those coveted spots. Despite an improved display in their draw against Egypt, the Black Stars find themselves officially out of contention for the top four third-placed positions.

As the drama unfolds on matchday three, football fans brace themselves for the final group clashes that will determine which teams advance and which bid farewell to AFCON 2023.
