Ghanaian midfielder Abdul Iddi Yakinu scored the opener for KV Mechelen who posted a 2-1 win over Cercle Brugge in the Belgian Pro League on Sunday.
After both sides failed to score in a pulsating opening 45 minutes, Iddi shocked the home side on the 53rd minute mark with a superb effort.
The 26-year-old breached the home side’s defence with a measure of skill before firing beyond the stranded goalkeeper.
Mechelen resisted a Cercle fight-back to win the tie despite having a man sent off.
Yakinu, a former Fetteh Feyenoord Academy graduate, has scored once in ten league games for Mechelen this term.
