Ghana’s iconic duo of Andre Ayew and Asamoah Gyan have their names in African footballing history, alongside legends like Samuel Eto’o and Kalusha Bwalya in a prestigious club: players who have scored at six Africa Cup of Nations tournaments.

Ayew, Ghana’s all-time AFCON top scorer with ten goals, continues to dazzle on the continental stage. His strike against Gabon in 2021 cemented his place alongside Gyan, who sits just behind him with nine goals and a legacy of electrifying performances.

Both players have been the Black Stars’ talismans, leading the charge in two AFCON finals (2010 and 2015) and captivating fans with their skill, passion, and unwavering dedication to the national team.

Bwalya, the trailblazer of this elite group, was the first to achieve this feat, lighting up the AFCON in the eighties and nineties with his Zambian magic. Eto’o, the indomitable Lion of Cameroon, followed suit, scoring in six tournaments and leading his nation to two continental titles.

Gyan’s strike in 2017 solidified his place among these giants, and with Ayew just one goal away from scoring at seven tournaments, the potential for further history-making is tantalising.

Ivory Coast 2024 awaits, and with it, the possibility of Ayew surpassing Bwalya’s record and establishing himself as the undisputed scoring king of the AFCON. Whether Gyan can add to his tally and further cement his legacy remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: these Ghanaian legends have etched their names in the annals of African football, forever inspiring generations of players and fans alike.
