Tottenham target Serbian Europa League winner as the summer heats up

Tottenham set sights on Serbian star as Antonio Conte to be backed in summer transfer window

Champions League-bound Tottenham is set to assault the transfer window under popular manager Antonio Conte this summer and could begin their reinforcement drive in a deal for Eintracht Frankfurt’s Filip Kostić.

The Serbian international was ever-present for Die Adler this season as Oliver Glasner’s outfit both in the Bundesliga and on the continent as the German club defeated Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s Rangers side in the Europa League final on penalties.

Kostić – 29 – is out of contract at the end of last season but has remained one of the leading lights for Frankfurt since his arrival from Hamburger SV in 2018 initially on loan before securing a full move the following year.

Versatile as either a left-winger, left-midfielder, or even a left-wing back, Tottenham could view a move for the Kragujevac-native as a considerable upgrade on their options on the left side of the defense or even further forward depending on how Conte intends to utilize both Heung-min Son while the future of Sergio Reguilón could be up for debate, and according to Darren Lewis (CNN, The Mirror), club director of football Fabio Paratici is high on the player and could look to move quickly to secure a deal.

Tottenham is expected to spend considerable amounts of cash this summer after £150million of equity has been made available to back Conte in the ongoing project in north London after the former Italian international guided the club back into the Champions League at the expense of bitter rivals Arsenal, with Kostić fitting the bill on a tactical level at the very least.

With a deal for the left-sided Serbian potentially costing the club a paltry £12million, an affordable deal for a player of quality would allow Conte and Paratici plenty of room to maneuver in the summer market in a bid to close the gap to the top three while further separating themselves from Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal.
