Abukari Damba questions players motivation to play for the national team

Ghana faced a bitter 1-0 defeat against Comoros in Moroni on Tuesday afternoon.

However, the shockwave extended beyond the pitch as retired Ghanaian goalkeeper Abukari Damba voiced serious concerns about the national team’s motivation.

Damba, a former custodian of the goalposts for Ghana, took to the forefront, raising thought-provoking questions about the players’ commitment to donning the national colors.

The defeat against Comoros, a team considered less formidable in the footballing arena, has prompted Damba to scrutinize the underlying factors influencing the team’s performance.

“I always talk about the intrinsic motivation of these players, are these players self motivated enough to play for the national team, these are some of the questions that we always have to ask,” Damba told Citi Sports.

“But that notwithstanding, I still think we have the opportunity to redeem ourselves[Black Stars], both players and the technical team. So far, it is not looking too good, but i believe we can always make it better.

“Again, emphasis on intrinsic motivation, whether they are self motivated enough to be called upon to play for the senior national team,”
