Abubakar quits Medeama post, paves way for Chelsea move

Medeama coach Yusif Abubakar has handed in his resignation letter paving the way for an expected move to Berekum Chelsea, GHANAsoccernet.com can exclusively reveal.

The former Hearts of Oak trainer is being courted by Chelsea to fill the void of substantive head coach which was created following the elevation of Hans Van Der Plyuim as the club’s Technical Director.

In a letter dated 17th September, Abubakar who resigns on ‘personal grounds’ thanked management for the excellent working relationship and support during his tenure as assistant coach at Medeama.

“I want to thank the Medeama management and the President (Moses Armah) for the opportunity given me and the support,” he told GHANAsoccernet.com.

“Once we continue to remain football people, I am sure our paths will cross again in future.”

The 49-year-old who has reverted to his job at the College of Education in Winneba insists he is currently not in negotiations with any club.

“I have returned to the College and for now I am not in discussions with any club,” he adds.

Abubakar has risen through the ranks to become one of the finest coaches in the Ghanaian topflight.

He joined Medeama as an assistant to Bashir Hayford in 2011 but spent the latter part of last season as the interim coach of relegated Wassaman United.
