It’s largely been a good week for English clubs in Europe, let’s see how they back up the performances on an intriguing Premier League weekend.
Wolves v Newcastle
One side who didn’t do well was Newcastle, losing 1-0 at home to Dortmund and they picked up key injuries. Now they go to an in-form Wolves.
Such is social media and the media in general, Gary O’Neil is now being lauded as a tactical genius after showing some training videos on Monday Night Football. It’s a great match-up between two potential England managers and I think Wolves are overpriced at around 10/3. That gives them under a 25% of winning and I rate their chances better than that.
Aston Villa v Luton
Aston Villa are flying and face Luton. Unai Emery’s side are 1/4, which is as short as I’ve seen them to win a Premier League for as long as I can remember. I do think they win, they’ll outscore Luton, but the Hatters are scoring goals. They got two at Forest and Everton. Villa are conceding too, so the home win and both teams to score looks good at nearly 2/1.
Man United v Man City
Let’s finish with the Manchester derby, which has become City’s domain recently including beating their rivals in the FA Cup final as part of the treble.
I’m confident this one will go the same way. From talking to people close to United, it’s evident despite three straight wins they’ve been ‘getting away with it’ a bit. They’ll have to play on the counter-attack, so maybe they’re good for a goal. City have conceded in each of their last six matches and both teams have scored in this fixture in each of the last four, with 20 goals across those. So it’s a City win and over 3.5 goals for me.
