Former Ghana international, Michael Essien has named Paul Scholes as the best player he’s faced during his two-decade career.
Essien was at the heart of Chelsea midfield in his playing days and came up against elite opponents in Europe.
The players include Xavi and Iniesta of Barcelona, Steven Gerrard at Liverpool among others but Manchester United’s Scholes stood out as the best and toughest opposition.
“I have faced a lot of good players in my career. It’s difficult to tell. I face the likes of Xavi, [Andres] Iniesta and a lot…Steven Gerrard,” Essien told Goal.
“But I always say Paul Scholes is one of the players that was quite tough.”
Essien world as an assistant coach for Nordsjaelland in the Danish league.
