Ghanaian defender Alexander Djiku has disclosed that he had a conversation with former Ghana Black Stars captain Stephen Appiah before making his move to SK Fenerbahçe.
Djiku terminated his contract with Racing Club de Strasbourg to make a free transfer to the Turkish team during this year’s summer transfer window.
The centre-back said the conversation with the former Ghana captain, was influential, among other factors in his decision to join Fenerbahçe.
Appiah had played for the club between 2005 to 2008 and scored 11 goals.
“I had the opportunity to talk to Appiah before coming to Fenerbahçe. He gave me advice,” Djiku told Tivibu Spor.
“Fenerbahçe has not been a champion for a long time. This was a strong competitive element for me. It is also very nice to live here, Turkey is a very beautiful city. I also wanted to play in European Cups.
“My dream is to play in the Champions League,” he added.
He has played 10 games and scored one goal in all competitions as they remain unbeaten.
