As the Black Stars of Ghana gear up to face the United States Men’s National Team (USMNT) in an international friendly on Tuesday, head coach Chris Hughton has spoken about the challenges the team is set to face in this encounter.
Hughton emphasized that the challenges are quite apparent, as Ghana is set to take on a strong team that boasts good experience and a favorable ranking. Furthermore, playing on US soil adds another layer of complexity to the match.
The coach and his team have been diligently studying their opponents, and they have particularly analyzed the recent game between the US and Germany.
Hughton noted that it was a game of two halves, with the USA putting up an impressive performance, especially in the first half, against a skilled and experienced German team.
Reflecting on the Black Stars’ previous match against Mexico, Hughton acknowledged the challenges they faced. In the first half, Ghana competed effectively, but they conceded two goals that he deemed as preventable mistakes. Against high-quality opponents, such errors can be costly.
Hughton emphasized that they are well aware of the challenges that lie ahead in the match against the USA.
However, these challenges are precisely why the team is participating in such demanding encounters. The coach and his players are committed to taking on top-tier teams to gain valuable experience and improve their performance.
”I think the challenges are quite obvious. We are up against a very good team that has got good experience with very good ranking and of course playing at home. We have watched a lot of games, we watched the recent game against Germany and I think it was a game of two halves. The USA did really good particularly in the first half but of course up against a very good and experienced German team. So we know the challenges are high and this is the reason why we are here. We had a very challenging game of course on Saturday. In the first half of the game, we competed and competed very well and conceded two poor goals but you can’t do that against that type of quality. So yes, the challenges will be high but that is exactly why we are here” he said in his pre-match press conference.
