Inaki Williams, the Spanish-based forward who switched allegiance to play for the Black Stars, describes his journey as challenging but enjoyable since joining the Ghanaian national team in May of the previous year.
The Athletic Bilbao star, who made his debut against Brazil in May 2022, is set to make his 10th appearance for Ghana after going nine games without scoring.
In anticipation of the international friendly against Mexico in Charlotte on Saturday, the 29-year-old expressed his commitment to the Ghanaian team despite his goal drought. Williams stated, “It’s a very important match for me. I feel the support of the Ghanaian people, and I will give my all in this match to score my first goal.”
He acknowledged the difficulties in adapting to a new team, saying, “It hasn’t been easy because I haven’t had many matches with my teammates, but this is football. I enjoy the game; I enjoy playing, so I will do everything to score my first goal.”
Williams also recognized the challenge posed by Mexico, describing them as hardworking with talented players. He concluded, “This match won’t be easy, but Ghana has very talented players, and we will fight to win.”
Ghana’s first friendly match is against Mexico, with a scheduled kickoff time of 9pm (1am Ghana Time) at the Bank of America stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina on Saturday, October 14, 2023. The Black Stars will then face the United States of America on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, at GEODIS Park in Nashville, Tennessee, in the second friendly match of the FIFA International window.
