Chris Hughton acknowledges challenges and high expectations for Ghana in 2023 AFCON Group

Ghana’s coach, Chris Hughton, shared his thoughts in response to the group stage draw for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations held on Thursday night.

The Black Stars found themselves placed in Group B, alongside Egypt, Cape Verde, and Mozambique.

Hughton acknowledged the high expectations that come with Ghana’s historical success in the tournament, while also recognizing the competitiveness of the African teams. He emphasized the need for preparation and performance to excel in this highly competitive tournament.

“Our expectations are always high, and the fact that we haven’t won this tournament for quite some time is indicative of the challenges. The teams that have won these competitions are the ones that deserved it,” he noted.

He continued, “We are well aware that the competition is fierce, and African countries have notably improved over time. To succeed, we must focus on our preparations and performances. Performing well is the key to success.”

The 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, known as the 2023 AFCON or CAN 2023, is scheduled to take place from January 13 to February 11, 2024.

The tournament will feature 24 countries competing for the coveted trophy across six venues.
