Ghana Football Association (GFA) presidential candidate, George Afriyie, has released a statement regarding his disqualification from the upcoming election.
The GFA Elections Committee recently announced his ineligibility after vetting.
In his statement, dated September 6, 2023, George Afriyie expressed his dissatisfaction with the committee’s decision and revealed that he has taken legal action to contest it.
He emphasized his commitment to following legal procedures and urged his supporters and football enthusiasts to remain calm and avoid any actions that could harm the sport.
George Afriyie reaffirmed his determination to pursue his candidacy for the 2023 GFA Presidential election, using all available means to ensure his participation.
Below is a copy of the statement from George Afriyie:
I extend warm compliments to all members of our football fraternity and all Ghanaians.
On Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at about 5.19 p.m ., I received the decision of the Elections Committee (EC) of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) dated August 28, 2023, via email, which said decision indicated that I did not meet the requirement to contest the position of the President rendering my application to contest for the position of President of the GFA unsuccessful.
I have since received several calls from well-wishers enquiring of my next steps.
Although I respect the EC, I am very much dissatisfied with their decision and have therefore referred the matter to my legal team to take the necessary steps to overturn this decision.
I have always believed in operating within the legal remits, laid down procedure and processes, and would therefore urge all my supporters, followers, and football lovers to remain calm and refrain from any acts that may mar our beautiful football culture.
Let me take this opportunity to assure everybody that “Operation Rescue Ghana Football” is still on course and that we shall use all at our disposal to ensure that my candidature for the 2023 GFA Presidential elections shall be restored. “For the vision is yet for an appointed time; But at the end it will speak, and it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it; Because it will surely come ….. ” Habakkuk 2:3
Thank you
Yours in football,
George K. Afriyie
(2023 GFA Presidential hopeful)
