Zamalek have appointed Brazilian Jorvan Viera as their new coach.

The 59-year-old has signed a one-year deal with the Egyptian giants and will be earning a reported monthly salary of $30,000.

Viera takes up the role following the resignation of Hassan Shehata after the 1-0 defeat to cross-town rivals Al Ahly in the Caf Champions League.

Shehata’s resignation was necessitated following the emergence of a rift in the team after the defeat to Ahly.

Zamalek are in a crisis situation as they are yet to register a win in the Champions League after three round of matches.

The White Knights who are in the same group as Ghana’s Berekum Chelsea have only managed a point so far in the competition.

They will be hosting TP Mazembe on Sunday in an attempt to resurrect their continental bid this term.
