AFCON 2023 Qualifiers: Antoine Semenyo earns Ghana hard-fought win over Angola

Forward Antoine Semenyo has scored in stoppage time to help Ghana beat Angola at the Baba Yara Stadium in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The 23-year-old found the back of the yet with few seconds left for the match to end, sending fully-packed supporters in Kumasi in overdrive.

Angola had made life difficult for the Black Stars but lost their resoluteness at the very end of the match.

Ghana had piled pressure on the Southern Africans from the get-go but failed to convert their chances.

Mohammed Kudus came close to scoring with a low shoot inside the 18 yard box in the sixth minute before later pouncing on a loose ball after initial effort from Inaki Williams forced Angola goalkeeper Neblú to making save.

The 29-year-old had to be alert to parry away Jordan Ayew’s 25-yard effort in the second half.

But the Angolans had chances following strikes from To Carneiro and Gelson Dala but it did little to trouble Ghanaian goalkeeper Lawrence Ati Zigi.

Ghana now top group E with seven points and will travel to Luanda for the second leg tie on Monday, March 27.
