Chris Hughton ‘incredibly proud’ to be Ghana coach

Chris Hughton says he “feels incredibly proud” to be named as a head coach of the Black Stars.

Hughton was unveiled on Monday to the public in Kumasi as the new gaffer of the senior national team.

He signed a 21-month contract with the Ghana Football Association which elapses in December, 2024.

“To represent Ghana and the Black Stars as the head coach is something I am incredibly proud of,” he said at the unveiling.

“It’s something I’ll give everything to make the team as successful as possible. I’ll give everything to make sure the communication and relationship I have with this association and the supporters”

His two assistant coaches Didi Dramani and George Boateng have also inked a one-year contract each to be part of the Black Stars technical team.

The first assignment of the Irish-born Ghanaian tactician in the dug-out of the West African nation will be on Thursday against Angola in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Ghana will host the Palancas Negras of Angola at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Thursday, March 23 before travelling to Luanda on March 27 for the second leg tie.
