Former Ghana international Yaw Preko has no qualms about the exclusion of local players in the latest Black Stars squad.
No home-based player was called-up by Chris Hughton in his maiden Twenty-five man squad for this month’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Angola.
Speaking to Oyerepa FM, the former Great Olympics coach said he was not surprised and urged the local players to raise their game in order to be considered for the future.
“The local players need to raise their game and see how it goes. I do not think Chris Hughton has watched the local league enough to be inviting local players.”
“I believe he is being cautious in the call up not to invite players he does not know much.
Ghana will play Angola in a double header this month in search of a ticket to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations slated for Cote D’Ivoire in January next year.
The Black Stars will host Palancras Negras at the Baba Yara Sports stadium on Thursday, March 23 before travelling to Luanda on March 27, 2023 for the reverse fixture.
Ghana are joint top of the Group E table with 4 points from two games following a 3-0 win over Madagascar and a 1-1 draw with Central African Republic in June last year.
